    Description

For Sale a drivable 1966 Sunbeam Alpine Series 5 convertible with hardtop
Here is a rare opportunity to own a classic British sports car for little money that is operational now and although not completely restored, it can be driven while undergoing additional work.
Note the value of Sunbeam Alpines has been increasing and now running cars frequently sell for more than ,000.  This car is still a project as you will find in my description that shows it needs more work to be completely restored or to be a daily driver, but unlike the majority of project cars you can enjoy driving this occasionally when the weather is nice and work on it in stages.
This car comes with a usable aftermarket fiberglass hardtop which is not very common.  Hardtops for these cars are difficult to find and expensive, especially factory steel hardtops which can have rust issues.
I uploaded a video to YouTube showing this car being driven and demonstrating that it has working lights.
Note be sure turn up the volume to hear everything including the great engine.
    See it here.

This car runs, drives and shifts well.
The motor starts up easily per the factory operating instructions by simply using the manual choke.
Yes it could use some cosmetic help but the enjoyment you get driving it is going to put a smile on your face.
    DESCRIPTION
    Electrical & Mechanical
Headlights (high & low beam), running lights (front&rear), turn signals (front & rear), dash instrument lighting, rear license plate lamps and brake lights are all operational.  The instrument lighting, front turn signal and running lights were all upgraded with LED bulbs.  Note, the working rear tail lamps and front headlamps have not been upgraded to LED bulbs.
The windshield wipers, heater fan motor and interior map light are all working.
The speedometer, temp gauge, fuel gauge, and oil pressure gauge are all operational.
The odometer reading is 88,061 miles.
The tachometer is connected and getting power but does not work at this time.  The same is true for the factory original 2 horns and both will need to be replaced.
Note I have 2 replacement horns plus other items in a bonus package.  See info on bonus package below.
Removed and cleaned all the electrical wiring connections, dash switches, and replaced fuses.
Repaired both front turn signal lamp sockets and replaced both front running light sockets, plus added new ground connections for these units.
The following work was also done.
Tuneup - changed spark plugs, adjusted points & dual Stromberg 150CD carbs, plus changed oil & filter
Tires (4) were replaced a little over a year and half ago
Battery was replaced 2 1/2 years ago (It is dated 10/2018)
Clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder were both rebuilt
Brake System - completely gone through
    - rebuilt brake master cylinder, plus front disc brake calipers using new pistons, and rebuilt rear wheel brake cylinders
    - replaced all hydraulic brake hoses, replaced brake light switch, replaced rear brake linings and hardware
The original brake vacuum booster has been bypassed, but is included with the car.  It will require a rebuild to use it.
Removed and cleaned the mechanical fuel pump plus added a new inline fuel filter and flushed fuel system.
Cleaned both Stromberg 150CD carbs, replaced O-rings and throttle linkage bushings and adjusted carbs
Removed, cleaned and reinstalled distributor assembly then adjusted timing
Replaced the leaking pushrod side cover gasket
Repaired the alternator mounting bracket that attaches to engine block
Mechanical work that has not been done yet and needs to be done.
The rubber parts for suspension such as bushings, rubber covers for steering tie rod ends and ball joints are all cracked and need to be replaced as well as the rubber grommets for the engine firewall.  Note while these parts have not failed, the replacement of these old parts are highly recommended to help provide safety and reliability.
    Interior Condition
This car has a custom made interior that is not fully finished however it is very usable now.  The seats were nicely recovered with a black cloth material in very good condition rather that the stock vinyl typically found in these cars. This is a plus when you go out in hot weather since your backside won't get fried when sitting down.
The custom black vinyl door panels as well as the other interior carpeted panels are in good condition.  A customized console with wood top comes with the car.  It is shown in the car but is not mounted as it wasn't completed.  The installer didn't glue the material to the sides of the console and mount it.
Both door windows are in good condition and roll up and down.
The door latches and trunk latch work but there are no keys for the door locks or for the trunk lock.
Custom made black carpeting is glued to the floor pan of the car's interior.  Some of it needs to be glued on the passenger side upper footwell area and along some edges.  Also fitment is not perfect.
The floors do not appear to have any issues with rust as they feel very solid when knocked on and the underside of the floorpan does not show any rust issues.
Replacement rubber gaskets and weatherstrip are needed for the doors, windshield, door window tracks, hood, top, plus a few rubber parts for the air vent system to keep water from leaking into the car.
A pair of like new seat belts are included with the car as well as some interior trim parts, all of which have not been installed yet.
The top of the dash lacks a dash pad cover.
    Exterior Condition
When new, this car was originally red but now it is painted artic white.  It looks good from 10+ feet away but the paint has some definite flaws when viewed up close.  There are some noticeable cracks and chips in the paint plus a few small spots without paint.  I tried to show these in some of the photos of the body.  The front and rear bumpers are usable but are not perfect.  They are bent a little and the chrome has some scratches and is pitted in a few spots.  The front valance sheetmetal beneath the front bumper is missing.  Also I noted there was a repair done to the left front fender in the area of the headlamp assembly but it does not show when looking at the exterior.  I did not get any info about this from the previous owner when asked about it so I don't have any information about this, such as who did the bodywork and who painted the car or if it was in an accident.
No rust issues such as bubbling paint or paint discoloration noted on lower parts of the body.
The car's uni-body frame is solid.  Only minor surface rust is seen on some parts of the undercarriage such as the A arms and the engine compartment.
The battery box and the trunk floor have some rust issues. Someone else did a repair to the battery box so it is usable but it is not complete.  The trunk floor has rust on the driver side and surface rust on the bottom of the spare tire area but it is still usable.
A factory jack is mounted in the trunk and the car comes with a lug wrench but the car doesn't have a spare tire.
A factory latch piece that mounts to the underside of the hood is missing so the hood doesn't latch shut. The factory latching mechanism with working cable is installed on the cowl so if the missing part that mounts to the hood is installed, the hood can be secured as original.  A previous owner did make a modification to install a set of hood pins to secure the hood.  These are not currently installed.
    Hardtop & Soft Top
Included is an aftermarket fiberglass removable hardtop in good condition manufactured by DynaPlastics (Royal Coachman).  This hardtop is a black vinyl-covered fiberglass construction.  The interior side is white fiberglass.  These are more durable than the factory steel hardtops which usually have rust issues.  It has the necessary hardware to latch with the factory connectors on the windshield frame and to the chrome side plates behind the doors.
The car comes with the original factory soft top convertible frame with header piece to latch to the windshield but the convertible top needs new soft top material so it is usable again.
    Other Info
A pair of ignition keys will be provided to the buyer. The doors and trunk latches work but the keys for them are missing.  The previous owner did not have them.
VIN #395009973 noted on the vehicle manufacturer's ID plate secured to the car matches the VIN shown on this car's corrected title. Previously there was a missing number 9 on the previous title which has been corrected.
There are no liens or issues with the title to this car.
BONUS PACKAGE is available only if the following condition is met.
A bonus package will be included with this car IF the winning bid is 00 or more.
